“Eating Disorders Don’t Discriminate: Screening for Signs and Symptoms is a hands-on interactive workshop to provide clinicians a review and/or introduction of the importance of screening for eating disorders. Eating Disorders have the highest mortality rate amongst mental illnesses but often go undiagnosed for some time due to society’s current diet culture.

Beth Howard is a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina and the Director of Clinical Outreach at Carolina House Eating Disorder Treatment Program. In her role, Ms. Howard assists in the assessment of clients’ eating disorders and the appropriate level of care. Through real-life examples participants will be able to identify and understand signs and symptoms of eating disorders a client would present with during an assessment or therapeutic session.

Participants will:

  1. Review DSM V criteria for eating disorders
  2. Identify signs of anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and other specified eating disorders
  3. Understand symptoms a client would present with during an assessment or therapeutic session
  4. Review evidence-based assessment tools for eating disorders
  5. Understand early assessment of eating disorders and referring to the appropriate level of care
